Judgement, agency and staying human in a world changed by AI

Sue

I work with senior leaders and experienced professionals navigating the human side of AI — building the capability, confidence, judgement & agency to lead & work well when the landscape keeps shifting.

My Story

After more than two decades leading transformation, crisis response and reform — from bushfires and pandemics to large-scale system change in multi-billion-dollar organisations — I thought I understood uncertainty.

But in 2023, a small experiment changed my mind. I asked ChatGPT to complete a piece of strategic analysis — work that would normally take me days. It returned something board-ready in minutes.

What struck me wasn’t just the speed. It was the sense that something significant had shifted. I realised AI wasn’t just another tool. It was going to reshape how work gets done.

I stepped away from executive life to understand that shift properly. I immersed myself in AI strategy, safety and real-world use and began testing AI inside my own work and decision-making — navigating my own re-invention from senior executive to AI-enabled founder.

AI is not the first time leaders have faced uncertainty — but it is changing what’s expected of professionals, with impacts that are personal as well as organisational. The context is still unfolding, the pressure to decide is real and the consequences — for people, trust and professional identity — matter.

That’s the space I work in now: the intersection of AI fluency, human judgement and lived leadership experience.

Through The Uncertainty Lab, I work with leaders, professionals and organisations who are trying to make sense of AI without losing clarity, confidence or their voice. My focus is practical and human: helping people strengthen judgement, build agency and engage with AI in ways that support – not replaces - good decision-making.

How I understand Uncertainty

We are no longer moving through occasional disruption.
We are living inside sustained uncertainty.

What makes AI-driven uncertainty different is not just the technology.
It is how it is quietly reshaping how judgement is exercised, how authority is held and how people understand their value at work. Its impact is deeply personal as well as organisational.

Living inside this kind of uncertainty has a real human and leadership cost.
Over time, confidence erodes and the capacity to act weakens.

This is the lens I work from.

My work focuses on helping people and organisations strengthen judgement, self-trust and confidence — and with them, the agency to live, lead and learn well inside uncertainty.

"I don’t remove uncertainty.

I help people navigate it — thoughtfully, deliberately and while staying human".

What I bring to this work

This work draws on an unusual combination — strategic leadership, AI fluency, coaching depth, and lived experience of navigating this transition myself

Transformation, Crisis & Strategic Leadership
Twenty-five years leading change across complex organisations

Executive leadership across $50M–$3B organisations in health, aged care, international development, community services and emergency management. Secured $500M in government investment, redesigned statewide service models, led international transitions across seven countries. Crisis leadership through the Black Summer bushfires and COVID-19 — carrying responsibility for people, reputation and systems when decisions had to be made without certainty, precedent or enough information.

AI Fluency & Lived Practice
AI credentials backed by daily practice — not theory

Formal AI strategy training from MIT Sloan, Oxford, INSEAD and Bluedot Impact. Certified AI Trainer. Beyond study, I stepped away from executive life to build and run an AI-enabled business from scratch — using AI daily in strategy, decision-making, client work and operations. I treat AI as a leadership, judgement and capability challenge — helping people build the confidence and agency to lead and create value in conditions that are still unfolding.

Human-Centred Coaching & Facilitation
Focusing on the human side of AI, not the technology

Certified NLP Master Coach with extensive mentoring experience. I work at the intersection of strategic thinking and how people actually function under uncertainty — their decision-making patterns, how they hold risk, and what their professional identity is anchored to. I create psychologically safe spaces where experienced professionals people can think clearly, ask real questions and rebuild confidence when the ground has shifted.

Lived Experience of Navigating AI Uncertainty
I didn't study this transition. I lived it.

Lived experience of navigating, leading and living through uncertainty across a 25-year career. Most recently, I walked away from senior executive leadership and built a new career from scratch — as an AI-enabled strategist, advisor and founder. I have navigated the identity disorientation, the "what am I worth now?" question and the process of finding my footing in a landscape that looked nothing like the one I'd built my reputation in.
